It looks crappy. Poor textures, low polygon count, strange lighting. The gameplay should be great as it comes from Simbin, but when are they going to improve their graphics? Simbin is no multimillion dollar company, so that could be an explanation. If this game sells well, maybe they can invest in new improved technology?

Please use SpeedTree for creating trees (oblivion etc..), not Catacomb3D textures.
Same goes for the wall of tires, in picture one...

Visually it doesn't look very good. Looks better than their PC titles, but still not great. Simbin just isn't good at graphics, it may look better than Forza 2, but that isn't a very high bar. I'll pick the game up if it's fun, but I had GTR on PC and I didn't find it fun at all, and I didn't even think the simulation elements were particularly impressive.

Actually I thought GTR looked really good when it was released. Clean and everything.

Sorry but GTR Evo on PC looks much better then this, it has way better colours and textures, GTR Evo actually looks pretty good.

Not even close. This one looks to have far better textures, lighting & reflections.

The graphics are laughable. If there is one genre in which consoles ALWAYS have the upper hand, it is racing games. (this is basically a PC port)

Ultri-high resolutions can only take you so far when the texture itself sucks, and when the texture is........well, a texture. In this day and age those tires on the sides are just downright unacceptable, along with the trees. They are using prehistoric techniques.

The sad part is that this game is for console gamers who have not played the PC games, because I frankly see ZERO reasons to play this when you have the PC game, and thus this game has failed from my point of view.

BTW, does anyone else like the fact they mention 350 cars? lol, that numbers is more like 80 at best.

Well Forza Motorsport 2 was a very mediocre looking game IMO because the developers focused on the physics, damage modelling and having a 60 fps framerate at the expense of the visuals. Race Pro, at least to my eyes, looks a little better than Forza 2 graphically and will presumably run at 60 fps with even more convincing physics and damage modelling if SimBin's benchmark PC simulations are anything to go by.

The Xbox 360 isn't a console with unlimited power, it is more like low to medium PC spec by today's standards so there's no way you're going to have an ultra realistic simulation with amazing graphics too. There's plenty of games out there that can't even manage 720p resolutions, e.g. Call of Duty: World at War and Tomb Raider: Underground, and that's a decade old resolution by PC standards. There's only so much you can do with 512 MB of memory... ;)

Just look at Gran Turismo 5: Prologue for an example of how a game can go wrong when developers push the visuals at the expense of everything else... flucuating framerate that is poor on some tracks (i.e. the London one), screen tearing and weak AA all for having 1080p 60 fps visuals that few will ever see anyway... it doesn't even have any decent A.I. or damage modelling yet calls itself a "real driving simulation"! LOL

I'm confident that SimBin will deliver a great game. After all Forza 2 with its lacklustre visuals still managed to get great reviews and with good reason: it *was* a good game.

I agree to some degree with your statement on PC as being the standard for great visuals. But the consoles are no low to medium spec PC. I have played GRID (which has great visuals) on PC and console and there is almost no difference in graphical quality except if you push the resolution to very high. Another example is Gears of War 2: if you want a PC to run this game, you will need a high end PC. Another argument in favour of consoles is that when you play it on a large HDTV, the immersion is way better than when you are looking at a much smaller monitor (if you want a 24" PC monitor, you will pay a lot of money, but still it will be small compared to your HDTV). For now the consoles are delivering high quality visuals, as long as you don't expect Crysis graphics (for which you still need a 1000 euro PC to run it at Enthousiast settings).

I am a PC-fan, and I love the consoles. The can co-exist perfectly, as long as piracy is not going to kill the PC-platform.
